How much does a portrait photographer cost?

Portrait sessions start at $450 for a 60-minute outdoor session with 30+ edited images. Larger family or extended sessions are quoted individually.

Do you offer indoor or outdoor portraits?

Both. Most clients choose outdoor golden-hour sessions in Sacramento parks and along the American River. We also have access to a private studio for headshots and weather backup.

How far in advance should I book?

3–6 weeks for most portrait sessions. Holiday card season (October–November) books 8–12 weeks ahead.

Twenty years behind the lens.

We’re The Smith Team — a husband-and-wife portrait photographer duo who’ve been making images of Northern California families since 2005. We approach every portrait session the same way: light the room, find the people, get out of the way.

Portrait photography near me searches almost always lead to one of two extremes — a chain studio with vinyl backdrops, or a hobbyist with a borrowed camera. We sit in the middle: a full-time professional studio with the calm and warmth of someone you’d invite to dinner.
